Management of diabetes is getting complicated – what with new antidiabetic agents coming to the market with some frequency. Some old drugs, however, remain tried and tested. As diabetes becomes important in the community, all specialtsts, including nephrologists will need to know how to manage these cases. The Research Society for Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI) has developed a simple user friendly approach to decide the appropriate antidiabetic agent to be used in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. They call it the “therapeutic wheel”.
This wheel should be used as follows
- Whenever you see a patient in your clinic Identify the best choices available to you from the outer rings of the wheel (Orange and red)
- Further fine tune your choices if more concerns exist in a given patient and reach a rational final choice in an ‘individualised approach’
You can find the wheel embedded below, or click here to download.
